UKAS approved materials testing laboratory supplying services to the construction industry. The company is based in Coatbridge and has solid growth plans over the coming years. To help cope with the additional workload the company would like to take on a Trainee Materials Technician. The successful candidate will be given access to a company vehicle and will require to be mobile travelling to building sites across the country.
Normal hours Mon – Fri 7.30am – 5pm. Some flexibility is required around hours to meet the on-site demands of the customers; this will be discussed at interview. Hourly rate for the role will be £12.60
Duties
This job involves traveling to building sites to carry out materials testing and then completing the testing process at the company base. A large part of the job is quality assurance testing on concrete and some testing work on soils such as ground bearing.
Duties :
Collection/sampling of construction materials for laboratory testing
Completion of worksheets, including calculations
Liaising with managers and customers on job progress
Carrying out testing procedures at base (compression testing etc)
Maintenance of equipment
Working safely
Essential requirments
Over 21 years old
Clean driving licence
Good literacy and numeracy skills
Good attention to detail
Understanding of safe working practices needed for construction environment
Role demands working on construction sites and handling construction materials – need to be physically fit and have good flexibility
Reliable and trustworthy
Flexible approach to working hours – willingness to work overtime which may include weekend and/or night working
Good organisation skills
Good communication skills to liaise with managers and customers
Desirable Requirments
Knowledge/previous experience of working in materials testing
There would be the opportunity to undertake training across a number of areas – CSCS card, various courses available through the Concrete Society and Institute of Asphalt Technology.
